Black oxide is used as a temporary protective coating for various products, including screws and tooling. This process is most effective and primarily used for steel, it can also be used with limited success in some stainless steel applications.
Manganese phosphating is an oil absorptive coating that prevents excessive wear and seizing of surfaces during a break-in period. The most advantageous reasons for using manganese phosphate are the prevention of metal-to-metal contact, excellent oil retention and corrosion resistance, and superior lubrication during break-in.
